Callaway HX Hot Plus Golf Balls Review

I have recently been playing a new golf ball lately and I was very happy with the results so I decided to write a review. The ball I have been playing is the Callaway HX Hot Plus Golf Ball. It is a 3 layer long distance ball, and I have got to say that it is the hottest ball that I have ever hit. For me this goes straighter and longer than top flight and pinnacle distance ball.

For a little background on myself, I have been playing golf regularly for the last 3 years or so. I usually play about 10 times a year but I go the range about 5 times a week in the summer. During the winter I try to hit up the golf dome but it can be much more expensive there. I don't always have as much time to actually get a round in so I like to just hit balls during my lunch break. I usually shoot about 100.

Even though I am a high handicap golfer you should know that I hit the ball pretty good. My score is high if I lose my touch around the greens. As far as rating a ball, I feel that I can still give a very good review of what to look for. If you are about the same handicap as me then what works for me is going to work for you to.

One thing I learned is that for a high handicap golfer you usually want to get a distance ball. For one we hackers just don't get enough club head speed to get a lot of backspin on a premium ball. The spin that we get is from hooking it and slicing it, and that is not the kind of spin that you want! The 2 and 3 layered hard distance balls have a lot less spin so on miss hits it stays straighter, and it rolls longer.

That being said I have tried a few different distance balls. I've used Pinnacle, Wilson, Top Flight and Slazenger distance balls and the HX Hot is the longest by a mile. These balls are also the straightest balls I have hit, and that's another reason why I know this is great distance ball. My slices have came back in a lot and even when I tried to hit a fade it still stayed very straight which I guess is a good thing because I should just be worrying about it staying straight.

You can find cheap HX Hot golf balls on eBay usually. I don't think that Callaway makes them anymore because they now use the HX Hot Bite. I have tried these before I they are still good but not as long or straight. I highly recommend the original HX Hots as well as the HX Plus.

One of the drawbacks of this ball is that it rolls a lot around the green. If I am just playing for fun then I use the HX Hot for my long clubs and then use Titelist PRO V1 for putting. If I play in tournament I will just the the XH Hot for the whole hole.

To be honest with you us high handicappers should probably not be trying to hit any kind of lob shot or fancy short game shot. It is a lot easier for me to keep my chipping consistent if I chip it on and let it roll to the cup. For this the XH Hot is very good. It is not as good for lobbing it up there or trying to put backspin on the ball.

I can honestly say that this is my favorite golf ball. I have smacked this off the tee over 250 yards with a 3 wood before, and with the driver this ball adds a good 20-30 yards for me. If you want what is quite possibly the longest golf ball available then I strongly suggest this ball especially if you are a novice player. The last time I played I only lost 3 balls because I was hitting this one straight down the fairway, which was something I was not able to do before. It probably shaved about 5 strokes off of my game.
